Family Member Definition. For the purposes of granting annual leave, sick leave under the Federal Employee Family Friendly Leave Act, and participation in voluntary leave transfer program and leave bank programs, a family memberis defined as: (1) A spouse or parents thereof; (2) Children, including adopted children, and spouses thereof; (3) Parents; (4) Brothers and sisters, and ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ thereof; and (5) Any individual related by blood or affinity whose close association with the employee is the equivalent of a family relationship. A more limited definition applies to employees requesting leave without pay under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FAMLA). The FAMLA definitions are found in 5 Code of Federal Regulations 630.1202.
