Faculty Layoff Clause Samples

The Faculty Layoff clause outlines the conditions and procedures under which a faculty member's employment may be terminated due to reasons such as financial exigency, program discontinuation, or other institutional needs. Typically, this clause specifies the criteria for selecting faculty for layoff, the notice period required, and any rights to appeal or reemployment. Its core practical function is to provide a clear, fair process for reducing faculty positions while protecting both the institution's operational needs and the rights of affected faculty members.
