Extreme Temperatures Sample Clauses
Extreme Temperatures a. The parties acknowledge the potential of hazards while working in extreme temperatures, both cold and hot; and the necessity for accomplishing mission-related tasks even in the most extreme temperatures. It is each employee's responsibility to ensure the adequacy of cold weather gear worn and to make full and proper use of all such protective equipment prior to exposure to extreme temperatures. Employees whose duties require work out of doors with repetitive prolonged exposure will be furnished appropriate protective gear, at no cost to the employees.
b. Management acknowledges that certain extreme temperature conditions could arise which could preclude the performance of work on a sustained basis.
c. Extreme Cold:
(1) Work will be controlled when the Wind Chill Index/Equivalent Chill Temperature (WCI/ETC) is computed to be colder than minus eighteen (-18) degrees Fahrenheit in the work area. The supervisor will monitor the safety of the employees.
(2) When the WCI/ECT exceeds minus thirty-one (-31) degrees Fahrenheit, work in that environment will be redirected. However, if operational duties require, the movement of essential equipment into and out of maintenance areas may be accomplished by the most expeditious means available.
d. Extreme Heat:
(1) Work will be controlled when the Heat Index (HI) is computed to exceed one hundred two (102) degrees Fahrenheit in the work area. The supervisor will monitor the safety of the employees.
(2) When the HI exceeds one hundred seven (107) degrees Fahrenheit, work in that environment will be redirected. If operational duties are required, water intake will be increased and work/rest cycles established. 18-5 WIND Wind causes fatigue and other safety considerations, such as static electricity. Refueling/Defueling operations will cease when wind speed exceeds thirty-five (35) knots. Supervisors will monitor wind speed and ensure employees who show signs of fatigue are allowed to take a five (5) minute rest period away from the wind. During any fuel transfer operation, any visual or audible signal of excess static electricity will be interpreted to mean the potential of extremely hazardous conditions. The operation will be stopped immediately and corrective measures will be taken to prevent ignition and/or explosion.
Extreme Temperatures. Employees are expected to work if conditions in the work place are reasonably adequate, normally between 65 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Dismissals due to unusual work conditions created by temporary disruption of air cooling or heating systems should be rare. The employer must take appropriate measures to correct or improve the work environment as soon as possible. When temperatures fall outside normal expectations, the supervisor will consider the following options:
(a) Flexible dress code,
(b) Relocation,
(c) Flexible work schedules,
(d) Liberal leave policy. For example, individual employees affected by unusual levels of temperature to the extent that they are incapacitated for duty, or to the extent that continuance on duty would adversely affect their health, will be granted annual or sick leave.
(e) Employer provided additional equipment such as fans, space heaters, portable air conditioning units, etc. However, when extreme temperatures exist, the supervisor will closely monitor the health/comfort of employees. If administrative dismissal is deemed appropriate based on the work environment, productivity and existing guidelines; the supervisor will request approval through chain of command with coordination of the Civilian Personnel Flight. Approval authority is the Support Group Commander.
Extreme Temperatures. (a) The company recognises the potential impact on employees when the temperature in the workplace becomes excessive. Management, employee, and safety representative, at the commencement of the relevant shift, shall confer the course of action that will deal with the extreme temperature that has been forecasted for the day/s.
(b) In these circumstances the company will take necessary steps to provide relief for employees, through a combination of measures including, where practicable, the provision of air-conditioning and the supply of cool drinks and refreshments and rest periods.
(c) The Company will monitor the situation and work with the employee representative and health and safety representatives.
