Common use of Estimates of the Number of Persons Clause in Contracts

Estimates of the Number of Persons. with Hospital Inpatient Stays When calculating an estimate of the total number of persons with hospital inpatient stays, users can use a person-level file or this event file. However, this event file must be used when the measure of interest is defined at the event level. For example, to estimate the number of persons in the civilian noninstitutionalized population of the U.S. discharged from a hospital in 2004 with at least one hospital stay of 10 or more nights, this event file must be used. This would be estimated as, ∑ Wi Xi across all unique persons i on this file (4) where Wi is the sampling weight (PERWT04F) for person i and Xi = 1 if NUMNIGHXj GE 10 for any stay of person i = 0 otherwise.
