Demotions. An employee requesting a voluntary demotion from a higher to a lower-rated job, and who is subsequently demoted to the lower-rated job, shall go to the increment step of the lower-rated job commensurate with her/his overall seniority, provided she/he has experience in or possesses the ability to perform the duties of the lower-rated job without a training period. For the purpose of this Article and in the event of involuntary demotion, an employee who does not have prior experience or ability to qualify as above, shall remain at the increment step immediately preceding the step indicated by length of overall seniority, for a period not to exceed three (3) months.
