Continuous work. Except for meal breaks and for an additional break if required, the ordinary hours of work for employees will be continuous and will not exceed ten hours per day or shift. (a) A shift must not exceed eight ordinary hours of work (exclusive of meal breaks and any additional breaks) unless research and trials have established the efficiency and effectiveness of such shifts in relation to the health unit operations and have assessed the impact of such shifts on the quality of nursing services and the occupational health of employees, and unless there is agreement with the majority of employees affected by changes in shift length and there has been consultation with the relevant union.

Continuous work. Any employee required to work over sixteen (16) continuous hours, will receive for any hours worked over sixteen (16) hours pay at double the normal rate.

(c) 20 minutes shall be allowed to shift workers each shift for crib and a further 2 breaks of 10 minutes each which shall be counted as time worked.
