Acting Chief. On occasions of the Fire Chief’s absence due to vacation, sick time, etc., the Employer may designate next ranking administrative officer or other qualified fire personnel as determined by the Employer to assume the functions of the Fire Chief the Acting Chief shall be paid at a rate one classification higher than the employee’s normal rate of pay.

Acting Chief. Pay If a member of the Association is assigned by the Appointing Authority to be Acting Chief of the department, he/she shall be placed in the M-5 grade at the rate closest to his/her current rate of pay, for the duration of the period as Acting Chief. Acting Chief. This assignment shall be as follows:
i. The Company shall inform all qualified members of the bargaining unit that it requires someone to be Acting Chief for a specified period and shall then assign the most senior of these employees who volunteers for the member of the bargaining unit to be Acting Chief for the specified period.
ii. A member of the bargaining unit assigned to be Acting Chief shall, so long as required by law, have the same work schedule as the Chief Engineer. Upon completion of his assignment as Acting Chief, the member of the bargaining unit shall return to his regular schedule no earlier than the next calendar day, unless he agrees otherwise with the Company.
iii. When a bargaining unit member is assigned/volunteers to act as the Acting Chief under this clause, he will earn twelve percent (12%) more than his earnings would have been as an operator, exclusive of overtime, for the same period starting and ending three days earlier to offset the payroll period differences. iv. It is understood that an Acting Chief is a member of the bargaining unit and shall not be required to exercise managerial functions of a labour relations nature. (2007)
