Impulsive sound definition

Impulsive sound means either a single pressure peak or a single burst (multiple pressure peaks) that has a duration of less than one second.
Impulsive sound means sound of short duration, usually less than one second, with an abrupt onset and rapid decay. Examples of sources of impulsive sound include explosions, drop forge impacts, and the discharge of firearms.
Impulsive sound means sound having the following qualities: the peak of the sound level is less than one (1) second and short compared to the occurrence rate; the onset is abrupt; the decay rapid; and the peak value exceeds the ambient level by more than ten (10) dB(A).

Examples of Impulsive sound in a sentence

  • These results are in agreement with previous studies carried out in Patagonia, which reported that some native forest species, such as Araucaria araucana,Austrocedrus chilensis and different Nothofagus spe- cies, are capable of colonizing and growing rapidly on tephra deposits (González et al., 2014), which in several cases can be helped by microbial interactions at soil-root level (Marín et al., 2016; 2017; Mestre et al., 2017).

More Definitions of Impulsive sound

Impulsive sound means sound characterised by brief excursions of sound pressure (acoustic impulses) that significantly exceed the background sound pressure. The duration of a single impulsive sound is usually less than one second.
Impulsive sound means sound of short duration, usually less than one (1) second, with an abrupt onset and rapid decay. Examples of impulsive sounds include explosions, drop impacts and firearm discharge.
Impulsive sound means specific sound that is characterized by brief bursts of sound pressure, with the duration of each impulse usually less than 1 second, including without limitation specific sound containing "bangs", "clicks", "clatters" or "thumps" from hammering, banging of doors and metal impacts;
Impulsive sound means a single noise event or series of single noise events, which result in a high peak sound level of short duration (less than one second). Examples include, but are not limited to guns shots, blasting, or hammering.
Impulsive sound means sound of short duration, usually less than one second, with an abrupt onset and rapid decay. Examples of sources of impulsive sound include explosions, drop forge impacts, and the discharge of firearms. Impulsive sound also includes "peak noise," as that term is defined in ANSI SI.4-1983, or any successor thereto.
Impulsive sound means a short-duration sound (such as might be produced by the impact of a drop hammer or a pile driver) with one (1) second or less duration.
