Haudenosaunee. , means, “People of the Longhouse”. The Haudenosaunee Confederacy is comprised of the Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, Tuscarora, Cayuga and Onondaga Nations. Throughout my paper, I will use the Haudenosaunee people as an example because that is the culture that I am a part of and I was fortunate to be raised with the traditional teachings of the Haudenosaunee. Therefore my combined knowledge base comes both from the oral history of the elders who raised me as well as from my legal education. I do not however, purport to speak on behalf of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
