Haisla definition

Haisla means “dwellers downriver.” The word “Kitamaat” comes from Tsimshian people and originates from Prince Rupert and Metlakatla areas. “Kitamaat” means “people of the snow” in Tsimshian. In the Haisla language, the name for the village is “Tsee-Motsa” meaning “ ‘Snag’ Beach.”
