Catastrophic Leave definition

Catastrophic Leave means paid leave, which is transferred to a leave recipient from the Catastrophic Leave Pool.
Catastrophic Leave means leave for a catastrophic illness or injury:
Catastrophic Leave. A permanent employee who has exhausted all paid leave due to his/her catastrophic illness/injury, may request the District and CSEA to negotiate a Memorandum of Understanding providing for donation of sick leave. Any such donations shall be pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding reached for the benefit of that employee, and shall be irrevocable. If agreement cannot be reached in a particular case, no donation of sick leave shall be permitted.

Examples of Catastrophic Leave in a sentence

  • The Human Resources Department will verify the information submitted on the Request for Catastrophic Leave form and will forward a copy to the collective bargaining representative.

  • The employee must complete a Catastrophic Leave Request form, attach medical verification from a licensed physician which defines the catastrophic illness or injury (to include estimated date of return), and submit all documentation to the Human Resources Department.

  • In the event a donation is made to a specific employee and the committee determines the employee does not meet the Catastrophic Leave Bank criteria, the donating employee may authorize the hours to be donated to the bank or returned to the donor’s account.

  • Hours transferred from the Catastrophic Leave Bank to a recipient will be in the form of sick leave accruals and shall be treated as regular sick leave accruals.

  • Upon approval, credits from the Catastrophic Leave Bank may be transferred to a requesting employee's sick leave account so that employee may remain in paid status for a longer period of time, thus partially ameliorating the financial impact of the illness, injury, or condition.


More Definitions of Catastrophic Leave

Catastrophic Leave is paid leave donated to an employee where the employee or the employee’s direct family member, as defined herein, has suffered a major non-job related physical or mental illness, injury or disability and the employee has exhausted or is about to exhaust all accrued leaves and is not receiving compensation from any other sources (i.e. workers’ compensation or disability). In such circumstances, an employee may be entitled to receive and use the accrued vacation, sick and/or compensatory leave time earned by another employee to extend the employee’s ability to take paid leave. For purposes of this Section, the term “direct family member” shall include the employee’s: spouse, child, father, mother, stepfather, stepmother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, or xxxxxx child. Both the donor and the recipient must be non-probationary, Regular, Full-time employees. Catastrophic Leave requests shall conform to the following criteria:
Catastrophic Leave. For employees needing to take catastrophic leave to take care of an ill or injured family member, we expanded the definition of family to include siblings, parents, parents-in-law, and grandparents. We also combined the Unit I and Unit II catastrophic leave banks and increased the maximum size of the bank to 8,000 hours.
