academic proficiency. The Teacher Education Program has high expectations for prospective teachers in terms of academic proficiency in their college courses and school based experiences. Academic proficiency refers to the candidates' ability to accurately produce high quality, timely, and refined responses to course and school based assignments. Specifically, academic performance needs to reflect the deep understanding of academic content, central concepts and tools of inquiry related to their licensure discipline, as adapted to the grade level taught and aligned to Colorado Academic Standards, and designed to be relevant to students in PreK-12 settings. Students are expected to reflect and improve immediately any deficiencies to enter student teaching and the teaching profession. If a prospective candidate is not on track to enter student teaching or the profession with appropriate academic proficiency, the student will meet with appropriate members of department faculty to determine if what actions, including dismissal or conditional approval, is recommended to proceed in the Teacher Education Program.
