Garth Coombes purchased the Halo Ranch in 2015, enrolling the entire property in the CCA/A program shortly after. When Mr. Coombes first took ownership and management of the Halo Ranch, the Lesser Prairie Chicken (LPC) habitat on the property was heavily degraded due to the overgrazing and lack of management efficiency of the previous owner. Mr. Coombes has made several improvements on the ranch to improve the habitat. The Halo Ranch is a very large area of mostly suitable LPC habitat, and even though Mr. Coombes is actively working to improve the habitat, much more can be done for the habitat and ranch itself. Some of the projects in this proposal were scheduled to be completed by Mr. Coombes, but the recent wildfires on two of his other properties forced him to allocate funds and resources to those properties instead.
