Contract Type FiledDecember 9th, 2010One week of training was provided to Bilyeu to familiarize her with NPS collections management policy. The first assessment trip and moving of objects was completed by NPS employee Kim Beckwith. The second trip, Bilyeu and Iverson assisted NPS employees Beckwith and Susan Wells on the first of four additional trips to Chiricahua National Monument, where the Collections Storage Building was evaluated for cataloged objects, as well as any other important (uncataloged, unaccessioned) items and documents. Park employees Dave Evans and Kathrine Neilsen provided input on objects that should be discarded and those that should be accessioned and cataloged. A strategy was developed for moving objects that were not housed in cabinets first, since active rodent activity in that facility made those collections most vulnerable.

Contract Type FiledDecember 9th, 2010This project was started in 2007 to assist 13 parks in achieving and improving accountability for museum collections by cataloging museum objects from various archeological projects at WACC into the Automated National Catalog System (ANCS+). Cooperators Katherine Beckwith and Judy Storry created 842 individual catalog records between 2007 and 2008, totaling 3,298 cataloged items for the following 12 parks: BAND, CACH, CAGR, ELMO, GICL, LAME, ORPI, PEFO, SAGU, TONT, TUMA, and TUZI. This included rehousing, labeling and storing the objects as directed by the NPS Museum Handbook. The other artifacts held by the NPS Division of Archeology had either not been washed and/or analyzed, and/or the reports and associated archives for the projects had not been finished or assembled, so cataloging was deferred until this work could be completed by NPS Division of Archeology personnel. The project due date was then extended to June 30, 2010.
