Common use of Work Zone Traffic Control Clause in Contracts

Work Zone Traffic Control. The Contractor shall perform the work so as not to unnecessarily interfere with, or delay any traffic, including but not limited to, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. On all Critical Roadways as listed in Section 2-07 (c) (5) of the Highway Rules, at least one lane of traffic shall be kept moving in each direction, or as provided for by applicable traffic regulations. On Critical Roadways, the work shall be performed so as not to interfere with traffic in any way during all or part of the period from 7am to 10am, from 3pm to 7pm and during any other periods of peak traffic movement. On other streets, if approved by the Engineer, the Contractor may be permitted to block all lanes of traffic on the street being marked during the marking operation. Where any crosswalk is permitted to be closed during surface preparation, pavement marking application and cure time, pedestrian steel barricades and a sign indicating “Crosswalk Closed” with an arrow pointing in the direction of the nearest open crosswalk shall be placed at the closure. In no case shall all parallel crosswalks be closed at two consecutive intersections (i.e., no pedestrian should have to walk more than one block to find an open crosswalk across the same street). Flagging and/or additional personnel may be required to assist in directing people walking. The Contractor shall enter and/or perform work on City streets with and in accordance with a Streets Permit, issued by the Department of Transportation, Office of Construction, Mitigation and Coordination. Work on any street must only be performed during the periods allowed by the Street Work Permit except when approved and/or directed by the Engineer. The Contractor shall enter and/or perform work on highways and/or on roadways with and in accordance with a Limited Access Roadway Work Permit, issued by the Department of Transportation, Office of Construction, Mitigation and Coordination. Work on any roadway must only be performed during the periods allowed by the Limited Access Roadway Work Permit except when approved and/or directed by the Engineer. The Contractor shall provide temporary traffic control in accordance with the most recent version of the national MUTCD. Temporary traffic control plans shall be prepared and provided to the Engineer. The Contractor may reference drawing TTC-1 as the plan for most typical situations, however, more detailed and complex plans may be required depending on the particular situation.
