Vocational tractors. Tractors in- tended to be used as vocational trac- tors may comply with vocational vehi- cle standards in § 535.5(b). Manufactur- ers classifying tractors as vocational tractors must provide a description of how they meet the qualifications in their applications for certificates of conformity as specified in 40 CFR 1037.205.
Vocational tractors. Tractors meet- ing the definition of vocational trac- tors in 49 CFR 523.2 must comply with requirements for heavy-duty voca- tional vehicles specified in paragraphs (b) and (d) of this section. For Phase 1, Class 7 and Class 8 tractors certified or exempted as vocational tractors are limited in production to no more than 21,000 vehicles in any three consecutive model years. If a manufacturer is de- termined as not applying this allow- ance in good faith by EPA in its appli- cations for certification in accordance with 40 CFR 1037.205 and 1037.610, a manufacturer must comply with the tractor fuel consumption standards in paragraph (c)(3) of this section. No pro- duction limit applies for vocational tractors subject to Phase 2 standards.
