Unit Based Scheduling. 2 a. The medical center and the association support self-scheduling as 3 it offers nursing staff the opportunity to be autonomous and in charge of their 4 work schedules, promoting accountability and responsibility that lead to job 5 satisfaction and personal growth. 6 7 b. The Medical center and association will allow unit based staff 8 scheduling for any unit that has a consensus of the unit’s nurses for this practice. 9 10 c. A nurse or team of nurses from the unit will take and maintain 11 responsibility for assigning RNs into the unit’s core schedule according to the 12 provisions of this agreement. 13 14 d. Units making use of this provision will determine their scheduling 15 process, and assignment of the RNs into the core schedule will be a fair and 16 equitable process. This process will have been agreed upon by members of the 17 unit and approved by Task Force. If an RN has a concern about the scheduling 18 process that has not been adequately addressed on the unit level, that RN may 19 raise the issue with Task Force. 20 21 e. After the nurse or team of nurses schedule themselves, the 22 manager will ensure the schedule is balanced or will make changes to balance 23 the schedule. 25 f. The association agrees that the nurse manager for such units has 26 final approval for each monthly schedule in a manner that is not arbitrary or 27 capricious.
