TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT IN HIGHER CLASSIFICATION Clause Samples
The "Temporary Assignment in Higher Classification" clause establishes the terms under which an employee may be temporarily assigned to perform duties in a higher job classification than their usual role. Typically, this clause outlines the conditions that must be met for such an assignment, such as duration, eligibility, and the process for determining any additional compensation or benefits. For example, an employee might be asked to cover a supervisor's responsibilities during an absence and would receive pay at the higher classification rate for the period of the assignment. The core function of this clause is to ensure fair treatment and compensation for employees who temporarily take on greater responsibilities, thereby maintaining workplace equity and clarity in job expectations.
TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT IN HIGHER CLASSIFICATION. A support employee temporarily assigned to a higher paying position for more than seven (7) consecutive days will be paid the higher rate retroactive to day one (1) of the assignment until the temporary assignment ends. The employee will be placed on the new grade and step with a minimum increase of 6% to the overall hourly salary.
TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT IN HIGHER CLASSIFICATION. When a unit member is temporarily performing the duties of a person in a higher salary range for any period of time which exceeds five (5) working days within a fifteen (15) day calendar period, the unit member shall be paid at the higher classification for the entire period during which the unit member is required to work out of the unit member’s classification. The pay step on the higher salary range shall be on the next higher dollar figure above their regular pay, or step 1, whichever is greater.
8.1.1 It is the intent of this section to permit the District to work unit members temporarily outside their normal duties but in so doing to require that some reasonable additional compensation be provided the unit member during such temporary assignment when that assignment is of significant duration. Assignments in a higher classification shall be offered as equally as possible among qualified unit members.
