TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS. 18.01 The parties recognize that technological developments, if they are to further the continued growth of the graphic arts industry, place a responsibility upon the Company to explore and promote new markets, and require the co-operation of the Company and the Union in the development of new skills. 18.02 In order to insure the orderly and most advantageous introduction of new types of equipment and new processes, the parties agree to meet upon request of either party, to consider and develop programs for the retraining or rehabilitation of employees in new skills required, so as to avoid if possible layoffs resulting from the introduction of new types of equipment or new processes. 18.03 The employers agree to actively assist in retraining employees affected by technological change. Such assistance will include but not be limited to making such new technology accessible to affected persons through the Training Institute and its Director for in-plant training programs.
