Small talks. This includes discussions and disreputable talks between the workers. These small talks are often small job related discussions that turns out in disreputable and non-job-related discussions. Conversations and discussions with salesmen and project managers are also considered as small talks. 7.49 % is the fraction of time the employees spent on small talks. In addition to the time spent on talking, these talks also represent an extra interruption of their work. From our observations we have calculated the number of interruptive talk between coworkers to be in average 10 per day. This means that some of the employees are disturbed more than once an hour. Conversations with other visitors are in addition to this.
Small talks. We think that this “activity” can be reduced significantly through creating more enthusiasm among the employees. By giving each of them commitment through responsibility for dedicated activities and make them understand the processes in other parts of the supply chain by focusing on TQM and SCM, we expect to get more hours used on value adding activities. Methods from material management will encourage the employees to focus on productivity since their performances are being measured. It could also lead to some form of competition of getting the best results between the employees as well, which will make them focus on producing results instead of talking to each other.
