Other injunctive relief to help ensure the health, safety or welfare of themselves or their children. To seek medical attention for injuries caused by domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. To obtain services from a domestic violence shelter, program, or rape crisis center as a result of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. To obtain psychological counseling related to an experience of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. To participate in safety planning and take other actions to increase safety from future domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, including temporary or permanent relocation. Any additional paid sick leave provided to an employee beyond 3 days or 24 hours in a 12-month period can only be used for the employee’s own diagnosis, care, or treatment of an existing health condition or preventative care. In addition, the District will also provide the use of such additional paid sick leave to attend to the illness of an employee’s child, parent, spouse, registered domestic partner, or registered domestic partner’s child in accordance with the “Kin Care” provisions of this policy. Employees do not receive compensation for any unused, accrued paid sick leave at the time of separation of employment. However, if an employee is re-hired with the District within 12 months of the previous separation of employment, the District will reinstate up to 6 days or 48 hours of previously accrued but unused paid sick leave that the employee previously had accrued. Kin Care Employees may use up to one-half of their yearly sick leave accrual to attend to a child, parent, spouse, registered domestic partner, or registered domestic partner’s child who is ill. Leave for this purpose may not be taken until it has actually accrued. For purposes of kin care sick leave use, the following definitions apply:

Sibling. A child who meets the eligibility criteria for receiving guardianship assistance under the Guardianship Assistance Act [MCL 722.871 et seq.]. A person appointed by the court to act as a legal guardian for a child under MCL 712A.19a and 712A.19c. A negotiated, binding agreement regarding financial support as described in MCL 722.875 for children who meet the qualifications for guardianship assistance as specified in the Guardianship Assis- tance Act and the department’s policies and administrative rules. An individual who is at least 18 years old in whose care a child remains or is placed after a court makes required findings under MCL 712A.13a (abuse and neglect). Legal custodians include unli- censed relatives and unrelated and unlicensed persons with whom a court has placed a child, and licensed xxxxxx parents. An individual who is at least 18 years of age and related to the child by blood, marriage, or adoption, as grandparent, great-grandparent, great-great-grandparent, aunt or uncle, great-aunt or great-uncle, great-great-aunt or great-great-uncle, xxxxxxx, stepsibling, nephew or xxxxx, first cousin or first cousin once removed, or the spouse of any of the above, even after the marriage has ended by death or divorce. The parent of a man who the court has found probable cause to believe is the putative father if there is no man with legally established rights to the child may be considered a relative but this is not to be considered as a finding of paternity and does not confer legal standing on the putative father. Sister or brother, related to the child by blood (same birth mother and/or father) or adoption regardless of whether the siblings ever lived in the same household. SUCCESSOR GUARDIAN TITLE IV-E "Successor guardian" means a person appointed by the court to act as a legal guardian when the preceding guardian is no longer able to act as a result of his or her death or incapacitation under section 19a or 19c of chapter XIIA of the probate code, MCL 712A.19a and 712A.19c. For persons outside of immediate family or household, employees are entitled to apply for annual leave or TOIL to attend the funeral on receipt of evidence eg funeral notice. The entitlement is two days per occasion. The entitlement may be taken as two consecutive days or two separate days. The two days may also be taken as separate periods of less than one day if approved by Clipsal. When an employee is taking compassionate leave because a member of the employee’s household or immediate family has a life-threatening injury or illness, the employee may start his or her two days of compassionate leave at any time while the illness or injury persists. Casual employees are not entitled to compassionate leave.

Time away from work to attend medically related interdisciplinary meetings necessary for the planning and care of a minor/dependentchild who requires coordinated care of services in the home or school setting. Time away from work to be with member(s) of the employee's household who experience injury or illness.
