Schedule Selection Process. (a) In each classification, regular employees will select their work schedule, in order of classification seniority, in June of each year. During the schedule selection process, an employee may drop one or more shifts they select within a block schedule pursuant to Clause 15.9(a)(5). (1) Regular employees shall select their respective schedules, subject to operational requirements, based on classification seniority within each classification. The allocation of shifts within a line will be limited to a break of at least eight hours from the end of one shift and the start of the next shift. Once the schedule selection process is complete, these schedules shall remain in place from September to September each year. (2) Schedule selection will take place on a mutually agreed upon date with a designated manager and the designated union representative. Employees must be available and prepared to make their selection on that date. Whenever possible, employees shall participate in person. If an employee must participate by phone, the Employer shall provide access to scheduling options prior to an employee's choice of shift. (3) Upon completion of the schedule selection process, employees must be available to work all shifts within the work schedule selected; (4) Employees on approved leaves of absence of less than six months are permitted to participate in the selection process in order of classification seniority. Employees on leaves that extend beyond six months, will be assigned work pursuant to Article 27 on their return. In order to ensure that employees on approved leaves are notified of the upcoming scheduled selection, the Employer will attempt to make contact with the employee at least two weeks prior to the scheduled selection date; (5) During the first round of shift pick, an employee may drop one or more shifts they select within a block schedule. During the second round individual dropped shifts will then be offered to regular employees, to maximize their line. Employees may not pick a shift that they dropped in round one of shift pick. There are no dropped shifts after round one. (6) Schedules that remain incomplete due to regular employees dropping shifts at the yearly schedule selection process will be offered to casuals as round three of the yearly schedule process until the next yearly schedule selection.

The Employer will do an assessment to determine operational requirements upon the completion of the shift selection to determine whether there is a requirement to utilize this provision, and efforts will be made to minimize its use wherever possible. It is further understood the Employer will follow Clause 27.6 pertaining to casual employees covering these shifts prior to requiring a regular employee to cover it. If all conditions above are met and it’s determined that operational requirements remain unmet, the most junior regular employees in each classification, will be required to take shifts that remain available/open due to not being picked during the yearly shift pick. Required shifts to be given to junior regular employees will have no less than 10 hours between the start of the shift and the finish of the previous shift.
