Retention Multiple Clause Samples
The Retention Multiple clause defines the amount of risk that an insurer retains on a particular policy, typically expressed as a multiple of a base retention amount. In practice, this means that the insurer may agree to retain, for example, two or three times the standard retention before reinsurance coverage begins to apply. This clause is used to allocate risk between the insurer and reinsurer, ensuring that the insurer maintains a meaningful stake in the policy and does not cede excessive risk, thereby aligning interests and managing exposure.
