Redundancy Determination. Should it be necessary to determine redundancy, the Secondary Staffing Committee shall meet prior to the second Friday in June for 31 August to ensure that the displacement of redundant teachers has been done in accordance with the principle of seniority, provided the teachers remaining are qualified. It is understood that:
(a) Teachers remaining on the surplus list will displace the least senior teachers in the system who have assignments for the next school year which the teachers on the surplus list are qualified to assume.
(b) Teachers so displaced will be those declared redundant to the secondary system effective 31 August. These teachers will be notified by the Board in writing by no later than the second Friday in June.
Redundancy Determination. 3.04.1 A redundant teacher shall be one who is determined to be in excess of projected staffing requirements as determined by clause 4.04, on a system-wide basis.
3.04.2 Prior to a redundancy letter being issued, the Director of Education, or designate, shall review with the President(s) of the Local Bargaining Unit(s) the administration and application of clause 3.04.
3.04.3 Prior to a teacher being declared redundant, the Board shall reduce its staff complement through normal attrition by voluntary withdrawal of teachers from the Local Bargaining Unit(s) and/or any leaves of absence approved by the Board.
3.04.4 Teachers shall be declared redundant in reverse order of seniority and placed on a Recall List.
