Program Activities. The goal of the program is to generate and evaluate carefully selected plant gene constructs of various origins under field conditions and under selected assay conditions by using a high through-put rice transformation system. A second goal is to combine transgenes and stack selected transgene-induced traits using genetic crosses between transgenic rice plants. A third goal is to perform a QTL analysis of biomass in rice to determine the identity of sequences that are associated with target biomass traits. Information generated from this program is intended to be used for crop improvement.
