The Professional Leave Days clause defines the terms under which employees are permitted to take time off from work for professional development or related activities. Typically, this clause outlines the number of days allowed, the types of activities covered (such as attending conferences, workshops, or training sessions), and the process for requesting and approving such leave. Its core function is to support employees' ongoing professional growth while ensuring that absences are managed and do not disrupt workplace operations.
Professional Leave Days. In accordance with Article 9, the Hospital may grant nurses paid professional development days. The nurse shall provide the Hospital with as much notice as is practicable to ensure that replacement staff are provided.
Professional Leave Days. The parties agree that up to two (2) paid days may be provided for professional staff training for teachers within the Peru Community School system. Additional professional leave days may be granted at the discretion of the Superintendent and/or School Board.
Professional Leave Days. 1. Employees may be granted professional leave days to attend workshops, conferences, and seminars. 2. Teachers working toward National Board Certification, or renewing existing National Board Certification may be granted two professional leave days per school year to conduct related professional activities during the certification/recertification period. The certification/recertification period shall be limited to three school years and the total number of professional leave days available during this period is limited to six. The employee must provide evidence of participation in the National Board Certification program prior to being granted professional leave days. 3. Requests for leave shall be in writing and directed to the Superintendent or his/her designee. Reimbursement for travel, lodging, and fees will be subject to approval by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Professional Leave Days. Each teacher/ancillary staff may, on approval from the Board, be allowed a maximum of two (2) days per year of salary covered leave for professional improvement providing such professional improvement is of a nature which the administration certifies as being directly related to a matter of school concern and a substitute teacher is available to cover classes. The teacher/ancillary staff taking such leave shall submit a written request in advance including estimated cost and have prior administrative approval before taking the leave; the School District shall pay for actual expenses not to exceed prior approved estimate of cost
Professional Leave Days. Employees are authorized two (2) professional leave days per fiscal year. These days must be used by June 30th of each fiscal year. Employees shall be eligible to use these leave days after completion of six (6) months of continuous full-time service. If the employee requests a professional leave day, the supervisor may not deny the request without approval of the Bureau Commander on a case- by-case basis. The supervisor or his designee shall decide whether to allow the requested leave within 14 days of the submittal. If the supervisor fails to respond within the allotted time, the leave shall be deemed to be granted. Once vacation leave is approved by an employee’s supervisor, no other leave by another employee, even if more senior, may supersede this approved leave, unless the employee transfers or otherwise moves from the assignment. However, consideration will be given when an employee has already incurred expenses related to the approved vacation leave and has provided such proof to the supervisor. No employee may accrue or use more than two professional leave, personal holiday, or appointed leave days in a fiscal year. If an employee has utilized any or all of this benefit for the current fiscal year under a different collective bargaining agreement, they are not entitled to additional professional leave days under this collective bargaining agreement. The professional leave day is to be taken as a full day according to the employee’s regular work schedule, eight (8), nine (9), ten (10), or 12 hours. When an employee chooses to utilize and is granted a professional leave day on a holiday, the employee will receive their normal salary for the holiday on a straight time basis for the hours they would have worked. Also, the employee shall receive an additional eight (8), nine (9), ten (10) or 12 hours of vacation leave credited to their vacation account, depending upon his/her regular schedule. The employee will lose the professional leave day once it is exercised in this manner.
Professional Leave Days. A. Professional leave days may be granted for any educational purpose that would be beneficial to the District. Any professional staff member is eligible for professional leave regardless of years of service in the District or in the profession. Professional leave is in addition to sabbatical leave and is not associated with sabbatical leave in any way. Approval of professional leave is to be granted by the Board, or its designee. The decision to grant or deny a professional leave request may be appealed to the Board, if the decision was made by the Board’s designee. Approval shall be obtained prior to the person's attendance at such function. The professional staff member planning to request professional leave shall notify his or her immediate supervisor at least two (2) weeks in advance of the anticipated absence. The request shall be reviewed on each administrative and/or supervisory level, and then submitted to the Board, or the appropriate supervisor designated by the Board. Professional leave shall include (but at the Superintendent’s discretion not be limited to) such activities as: 1. Workshops; 2. County, district, regional, state, national, and international events involving District students; and 3. Professional and educational conferences, including those sponsored by PSEA and NEA. B. In some cases, a professional staff member’s expenses while on professional leave may be reimbursed by the Board, in accordance with Article 20, subsection E of this Agreement.
Professional Leave Days. 1. Attendance at professional meetings is encouraged as an integral part of the total professional growth process. Personnel are urged to take active leadership roles in professional organizations and the Board will pay or share the expenses incurred by the individual in attendance at such meetings as the budget allows. 2. Each bargaining unit member shall be granted up to one (1) Professional Leave Day per year upon request to the Principal. Requests shall be approved on a first come/first served basis, and once approved, cannot be denied. Additional days may be granted at the discretion of the building principal. A request for the day of professional leave must be submitted to the building principal on the professional leave form at least three (3) work days in advance. A building principal may deny a request for the professional leave if the known or anticipated absences for the day exceed the ability to obtain substitutes. Such denial may only occur after consultation with the teacher and shall occur within forty-eight (48) hours of the request. A building principal may make an exception to this notification requirement when justified by the circumstances. For this professional leave day, each bargaining unit member shall be guaranteed up to thirty-five dollars ($35.00) per day for expenses upon submission of receipts as provided in Section 4 of this article. Attendance at activities under special grants applied for by buildings and meetings to which the administration has requested the teacher's attendance shall not be included in these figures. Requests for reimbursement of expenses or fees beyond the set amounts listed above must be approved by the Superintendent. Professional Leave Days may be used for short term for conferences, conventions, school visitations or other activities which will enhance the professional skills of the participant as a public school professional-- including supplemental assignments. Professional Leave Days may not be used for social, recreational, or personal and/or other occupational growth. 3. Professional leave for more than one day may be used for professional meetings such as those conferences, conventions, school visitations, or other activities approved by the Superintendent that the Superintendent or designee believes will enhance the professional skills of the participant in his or her current assignment. Professional Leave Days. Each worksite shall be allocated a minimum number of professional leave days annually equal to the number of full-time teachers. ESP may be approved to attend professional learning activities including induction and/or mentoring opportunities which enhance job performance. Such requests will be submitted in writing for approval to the Superintendent or designee. Requests for use of professional leave days by teachers shall be made using the current online process to the immediate supervisor and shall be subject to the approval of the Superintendent. The School Improvement Team, if applicable, may make recommendations to the principal. A response to the request shall be provided to the employee.
