Probationary Appointment. a) The purpose of a probationary period is mutual appraisal for the Employer and the candidate. Probation does not imply that permanent appointment will inevitably be granted. It does imply that the Employer will give serious consideration to such an appointment. Denial of permanent appointment does not necessarily imply incompetence or even dissatisfaction with the Librarian involved.
