Previous Character Clause Samples

The "Previous Character" clause typically defines the rights or obligations related to a character that has appeared in earlier works, such as books, films, or other media. In practice, this clause may specify how a party can use, reference, or adapt a character that was introduced in a prior installment or related property, often addressing issues like continuity, creative control, or royalties. Its core function is to clarify ownership and permissible use of established characters, thereby preventing disputes over intellectual property and ensuring consistent treatment of recurring characters across different works or adaptations.
