The PRECEPTEE clause defines the individual who is receiving guidance, supervision, or training from a more experienced professional, often in a clinical or educational setting. This clause typically identifies the preceptee by name or role and outlines their responsibilities, such as adhering to instructions, participating in evaluations, or maintaining professional conduct during the preceptorship period. Its core function is to clearly establish the identity and obligations of the learner in the preceptorship relationship, ensuring mutual understanding and accountability between the parties involved.
PRECEPTEE. A preceptee is a new graduate, student nurse, nurse resident or an experienced nurse who is transferred to fill an opening on a specialty area in which the nurse was not previously qualified. The preceptee will be assigned under the close and direct supervision of a designated preceptor and shall have limited responsibilities as specified by nursing management staff. Nursing management staff, with input from the preceptor, will determine if additional training or supervision, up to ninety(90) calendar days, is necessary. A preceptee shall not be given an independent patient care assignment.
PRECEPTEE. A preceptee is a nurse (e.g., a resident nurse, a nurse entering a training position or a nurse who transfers to a unit for which the nurse has not met the competencies of the unit) who is assigned a preceptor. A preceptee shall be responsible for the direct care of a limited number of patients, commensurate with the preceptee’s progress towards competency. Direct patient care assignment for the preceptee will gradually increase as competency is demonstrated to and validated by the preceptor and/or clinical education staff. Each preceptee will receive a written copy of the objectives and goals of the preceptorship and shall receive periodic objective feedback throughout the preceptorship. The preceptor and preceptee shall work directly together on each shift until the preceptee has achieved the competencies on his or her unit.
PRECEPTEE. A practitioner trainee or student who is doing a clinical rotation at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, and who is affiliated with an ongoing approved training program. Preceptees include Medical Students (MS): Pre- Clinical MS year 1&2 and for-credit MS year 3-4; physician interns, residents and physician assistant, and nurse practitioner students.
