Para-professionals. 4.4.1 The District shall employ Para Professionals in the following areas: clerical, library, playground, lunchroom, regular classrooms, special education classrooms, and other special programs. Para Professionals shall be flexible and expect assignments in any, or all, of the above areas. During the course of the school year, the District shall make every effort to keep an employee in the job assignment to which they have been assigned. 4.4.2 Para Professionals shall normally be paid on a monthly basis for ten (10) months. Para Professionals opting for twelve (12) monthly pay periods will be required to notify the payroll office on the proper form by September 10, and will be bound to that option for the remainder of the school year. 4.4.3 The Principal supervises the Para Professionals. Para Professionals report to the Principal or his/her designee and are responsible for carrying out District policies, rules and regulations as well as the job-specific duties outlined by the employee’s supervisor. 4.4.4 Para Professionals time schedules will be prepared in cooperation with principals and program coordinators and vacant positions and new positions of more than two hours will be posted for bidding prior to the start of school in the fall. 4.4.5 If during the year a Para Educator applies for and is granted a job at a different work site, the employee must travel to the other work site on his/her own time and at his/her own expense. Para Professionals will be paid for travel and time when mandatorily assigned by the District to more than one work site. 4.4.6 It is not the intent of the parties that in a teacher's absence a Para Educator will be left fully in charge of a class. 4.4.7 Both parties recognize the importance of highly-skilled Para Professionals to student well-being. After student dismissal on Wednesday early-release days, Para Professionals shall remain on site working as directed by their supervising teacher and/or principal. The District shall endeavor to provide for ongoing trainings and development needs during Wednesday early release.

All monies received in the form of stipends, grants, etc. for attending courses shall be applied to the tuition and the district shall pay the difference. b. No bargaining unit member shall be asked or expected to perform personal work for teachers, administrators, or others. c. Whenever a paraprofessional substitutes for a certified teacher, he/she shall be compensated at the greater of the employee’s regular rate or the teacher’s substitute rate of pay for such time. The Board recognizes that this disruption in the para-professionals daily duties causes extra work for the para- professional. If a para-professional subs a full half-day for a certified teacher, they shall have one hour of compensatory time if they sub the entire ½ day., if they sub a full day, they will receive 2 hours of comp-time. This time must be used before the last week of the school year and can not be carried to the next school year. d. Additional summer para-professional work shall be posted and offered to the para-professionals on a rotation basis starting with the most senior unit member within the para-professional classification.
Para-professionals. A person employed by the district who is a member of the SCA on the execution date of this agreement will (be grandfathered) qualify to become a paraprofessional by demonstrating proficiency on a district designed assessment or by providing a transcript indicating two (2) years of post-secondary education. Candidates must score 80% or higher on the district designed assessment to be considered highly qualified under the terms of No Child Left Behind. For the 2009-2010 school year only, the district will provide ten (10) hours of training to prepare candidates to complete the assessment. Para-professionals. 1. It is agreed by the JEA and the Board of Education that the work year for para-professionals, during the life of this Agreement, shall be 182 days to include the first day in September for staff only, and one in-Service day. The yearly salary fro paraprofessionals shall be calculated at 182 times 6.75 hours, plus two (2) additional hours for Back-To-School Night. 2. The length for the work day for each para-professional will be determined by the Board. In the event a para-professional work day is shortened due to inclement weather after the para- professional has reported for duty, the para-professional will be guaranteed a minimum of two (2) hours’ work. 3. Para-professionals shall be notified of re-employment as soon as possible after student placement has been accomplished. In any case, every effort will be made to notify papa-professionals no later than July 15th annually.
Para-professionals. All paraprofessionals who are required to meet the highly qualified criteria, as defined by the No Child Left Behind law, shall do so in accordance with the compliance date. A bargaining unit member who is unable to meet the requirements by the current deadline, established by law, shall be laid-off by the District, with bumping rights and/or recall rights to another bargaining unit position, providing they are highly qualified, in accordance with the provisions of the No Child Left Behind law, if said law applies. Should the Foundation Allowance increase and other state categorical appropriations not be decreased to state publicly supported schools, the amount of increase, if tied to the rate of inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, shall yield an additional 0.5% in wage increase. The increase shall take effect at the time such legislation becomes law, or at the time that a ballot referendum takes effect and shall not be retroactive unless, if approved legislatively, said law is retroactive to the beginning of the appropriate school year. Should this occur, said percentage shall be added to the salary schedule.

For 2004-2005, the terminal leave payment shall be equal to the employee's number of accumulated terminal days; multiplied by the daily-accumulated rate of $25 per day, with the maximum payment being $500. b. For 2005-2006, the terminal leave payment shall be equal to the employee's number of accumulated terminal days; multiplied by the daily-accumulated rate of $25 per day, with the maximum payment being $1,000. c. For 2006-2007, the terminal leave payment shall be equal to the employee's number of accumulated terminal days; multiplied by the daily-accumulated rate of $25 per day, with the maximum payment being $1,500. * Commencing with the 1982-1983 School Year, when continuous employment is interrupted by non-reappointment due to reduction in force and the teacher is subsequently rehired, said service shall be considered as if it were continuous. Although self-explanatory, it is acknowledged that there will be no accrual of sick leave or personal days for any year in which the person is not employed due to a reduction in force.
Para-professionals. If an employee leaves from work for reasons of illness, he/she shall be charged pro-rata for sick days.
