Maximum distance method. The maximum distance method searches a spatial cluster for two most distant points. The position of the trunk cross-section is estimated by the center of the line segment connecting these two most distant points. The radius of the circle is calculated as the arithmetic mean of point distances from the center of the circle. The estimation of cross-section's position and diameter by the maximum distance method is usually very close to the estimations by the refining methods. Examples:
