Our commitment as a church is to offer counseling services to our church members and fellow neighbors in Medford and Greater Boston. As a church, we are committed to help others glorify God with their thoughts, words, and actions through the community of faith. This is made possible by the redemptive power of Xxxxx Xxxxxx, the conviction and guidance of the Holy Spirit, and the instruction of God’s Word. Your counseling will be biblical, pastoral counseling in which the Scriptures are held as the final authority in all matters. If you are not sure you will be interested in biblical counseling, you will have the option of attending one or two sessions to discover how biblical counseling may help you. The next step in the counseling process is to complete the intake form you are now reading. We have designed it to enable the counseling process to start smoothly and connect you with the resources that fit your needs. The counseling form is designed to (1) help us to get to know you in a holistic and efficient manner and (2) help you organize your thoughts about your counseling objectives. Please allow 30 minutes to complete these forms. We ask that you complete these forms carefully and submit them to the Redemption Hill Church Biblical Counseling Ministry. A Pastor will review them carefully, and follow up as soon as possible. Please indicate when you are available for appointments below. Matt. 28:19–20 We believe that to teach and disciple is our calling. As such, we strive to guide learners to discover their purpose. Marriage, Gender and Sexuality : Gen. 1: 27 God created male and female. “Marriage” will be approached from a heterosexual understanding, and gender according to a chromosomal / biological worldview in line with God’s design. Heterosexual intimacy is intended as a covenant act within marriage, not before, nor outside of. “Staying together” disregards the intention of such a covenant relationship. Unity : Psalm 133 We believe in the value of unity for the growth and blessing intended for a community according to God’s desire for His children. Order : Genesis 1 God first changed chaos into order, and emptiness He gave structure before He started to fill these structures with living things. So too, order, structure and honoring authority is a biblical requirement to create a space where learners (and people in general) can be filled with that which is living. Although parents and learners have the right to differ from the beliefs, or basis thereof, of the school, the parent hereby agrees that they (and the learners) will honor and adhere to these principles as a member of the school community. Learners (and parents) submit to the rules by which the school is regulated as a safe area for learning and growing, and respect the values through which the school intends to do so. Matt. 25.14f. sent out as a messenger, envoy, or delegate on a ‘sacred mission’; thus, such a person is more often an agent than a menial servant.57 Following Xxxxxxx, Xxxxx critiques the concept of servant leadership, pointing out that the notion that servant leaders ‘serve by leading and lead by serving’ ‘is a construct that has been artificially created out of faulty exegesis of certain New Testament passages that, when correctly understood, are either not about leadership at all, or else are based on a different understanding of what it means to be the Church than the one we currently work with’ (Xxxxx, 2008, p. 105). He argues that such an approach is both pastorally unhelpful in that it ‘reinforces the notion that effective leadership consists of service to the congregation and maybe peripherally to the wider community’, and that it results in over-extended church leaders, whose priorities may have nothing to do with leading the Church.58 He locates the roots of this model of leadership in modernity (ibid pp.105-106). 59 Yet Xxxxxxx and Xxxxx’x reading of the term ‘servant’ is not the one which is paramount in the Ordinal; nor is it always clear if its use in the Ordinal relates to the role of enabling of the gifts of others in collaborative ministry, or is more about the priest’s humility of character. We will examine three specific areas to illustrate this. Leading by example The xxxxxx exhorts the priest ordinands to follow Xxxxxx and to devote themselves to his service so that they may ‘grow into his likeness, and God may sanctify the lives of all with whom you have to do’ (The Liturgical Commission of the Church of England, 2007 p.37). Clearly, transformative change in the lives of individuals is expected to occur as the ordained person lives out his or her Christian life in the 57 See Xxxxxxxx, 2011 p.21 for a discussion of the critique of Xxxxxx, 2002; and following Xxxxxxx’ (2002) rebuttal, Xxxxxx’x further refutation of 2008. See also Xxxxxx et al, 2007, pp.18f. for a further discussion of the issues around Xxxxxx’s interpretation of δικονια. 58 This argument is also put forward in Xxxxx Xxxxxxx (2009). 59 Xxxxx further describes the archetypical hero leader as one who ‘seems to be able to change the world single-handedly’, appearing as a ‘saviour’ figure in popular culture, comic books, fantasy movies, and the cult of celebrity. Some clergy present themselves as this kind of charismatic, visionary leader. However, the gifts of others are left und...
