LEGIONNAIRES. 16.1 In order to prevent the occurrence of Legionnaires disease which is a waterborne bacteria found in artificial water systems such as water tanks, showers and taps the Tenant to prevent the growth of Legionella bacteria should regularly flush water through all water pipes, taps and showers. The Tenant should also regularly dismantle any shower heads and hoses and disinfect and de-scale them with a shop bought disinfectant and cleaner. If the property during the Tenancy is vacant for an extended period each water tap should be turned on and water flushed through it for at least 2 minutes and any shower heads should be disinfected and de-scaled. The Tenant immediately should report any abnormalities in the flow and temperature of the water to the Landlord or the Landlord’s agent.
LEGIONNAIRES. The university ensures that accommodation meets its statutory obligations under Legionella by inspecting, flushing and sterilising water outlets. • Residents are asked to notify the university when absent from your room for more than 7 days outside of normal holidays so that staff can enter your apartment/bedroom and flush the WC and or run the shower/wash hand basin as appropriate • Students who have been away from accommodation for more than 7 days at any time are requested to flush their toilets and run their shower/wash hand basins on returning.
