Common use of Leave on an Intermittent or Reduced Schedule Basis Clause in Contracts

Leave on an Intermittent or Reduced Schedule Basis. FMLA leave may be taken in one or more periods and does not have to cover a continuous period of time. Unit members may take FMLA leave intermittently (in blocks of time, or by reducing their normal weekly or daily work schedule) or on reduced schedule basis if the leave is for the unit member’s serious health condition, the serious health condition of the unit member’s child, parent, or spouse, to care for an ill or injured covered Service Member, and the intermittent or reduced schedule leave is medically necessary as determined by the health care provider of the person with the serious health condition. Intermittent or reduced schedule leave is also available when necessary for a qualifying exigency. The minimum leave increment shall be the shortest period of time the District’s payroll system uses to account for absences or use of leave.
