Kneeling. A kneeling system shall lower the entrance step a minimum of 2.5 inches during boarding or off-boarding operations regardless of load up to GVWR, measured at the longitudinal centerline of the entrance door. A heavy-duty splash proof switch shall be provided to control the kneel system. Brake and Throttle interlock shall prevent movement when the Trolley is kneeled. The kneeling control shall be disabled anytime the vehicle is in motion. The kneeling system may not be powered unless the passenger doors are fully in the open position. The Trolley shall kneel at a maximum rate of 1.25 inches per second at essentially a constant rate. After kneeling, the Trolley shall rise within 4 2 seconds to a height permitting the Trolley to resume service and shall rise to the correct operating height within 7 5 seconds regardless of load up to GVWR. During the lowering and raising operation, the maximum acceleration shall not exceed 0.2g and the jerk shall not exceed 0.3g/sec. Micro switches shall not be utilized in kneeling system. An indicator visible to the driver shall be illuminated until the Trolley is raised to a height adequate for safe travel. An audible warning alarm, 80 dba, will sound simultaneously with the operation of the kneeler to alert passengers and bystanders. The audible warning will only sound when there is up or down motion. An amber LED warning light mounted on the curbside of the Trolley near the front door, minimum of 2.5 inches diameter, amber lens shall be provided that will blink when the kneel feature is activated.
