Heavy Materials. (a) An Employee shall not be required to lift building materials (including heavy blocks) in excess of 20kg in weight unless such Employee is provided with a mechanical aid or with an assisting Employee, provided than an Employee shall not manually lift any building materials in excess of 20kg weight to a height more than 4 feet (1.2m) above the working platform. (b) Where two (2) hour fire rated blocks are required, blocks with dimensions of 290cm by 190cm by 140cm must be used. (c) Where possible building materials with a weight less than 14kg should be designed and used on construction projects. (d) At the design stage, blocks which reduce the risks of manual handling injuries i.e. lighter building materials must be sourced. (e) Mechanical lifting devices, work planning, job layout, delivery of materials and good housekeeping are controls which should be considered to further reduce manual handling risk associated with heavy building materials.
