Hauling. Successful Supplier (s) will need to register to use the City Snow Storage Facility by going to the Engineering & Operations counter located on the Ground Floor at City Hall, ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ or call Service Fredericton at ▇▇▇-▇▇▇-▇▇▇▇. • • If Successful Supplier (s) is not registered with the City Snow Storage Facility, Supplier will need to follow the Province of New Brunswick guidelines: Persons collecting snow for deposit at disposal sites should take all reasonable efforts to minimize the amount of foreign matter collected with the snow. Snow removed from streets and parking lots should not be deposited directly onto ice surfaces or dumped directly into water bodies. Collected snow should be placed at designated areas far enough from surface waters to ensure that sand and foreign materials can be collected prior to flood waters washing them into the watercourse. Locations selected should have enough separation from the water body so that all foreign material will remain collected after snow melt. Regular patrols of snow dumping areas should be undertaken by the operator during snow melt conditions to collect and properly dispose of loose debris. Fencing may be required to prevent the debris from being blown from the site. Snow deposit locations should be selected in areas where groundwater is not used for drinking or which are sufficiently separated so there is no danger of groundwater contamination from chlorides. Snow deposit locations which are directly upstream of surface drinking water systems should be avoided. Snow should not be deposited in a manner that may block, impede or alter the normal flow pattern of the watercourse. Locations should be selected, and snow should be deposited so that melt water flows at a low rate to the water body and does not cause local flooding, bank erosion or disturbance of neighbouring properties. Municipalities and other third parties, providing locations for private snow removal contractors to deposit snow, should require the contractor to follow this guideline. Additional information and assistance can be obtained by contacting DELG Authorizations Branch, or a Department of Environment and Local Government Regional Office in your area. Guidelines can be found at: ▇▇▇▇▇://▇▇▇▇.▇▇▇.▇▇/content/gnb/en/departments/elg/environment/content/land_waste/content/r eference_manual/snow_removal.html • Sanding and salting shall be carried out on an “as required” basis to ensure normal traction (vehicle and pedestrian) is maintained. • Sand to be used shall be screened 5 mil and under. No big rocks or clumps of hardened sand. • Salt (or ice-melt) shall be used if/when it is necessary to prevent the build-up of ice on the parking area surfaces. • If ice ridges, ruts, bumps, or dangerous slopes to parking lots occur, a Scarifier or approved equivalent may be required to level the surface. • The use of an “ice cutter” or approved equivalent is acceptable around entrances to all buildings, but not salt. • At times, temperatures change quickly, and surfaces become very slippery – especially in the overnight and early mornings. The successful Supplier (s) is expected to verify daily before 7:00am Monday to Friday for slippery/icy conditions and remedy such before 7:00am. The successful Supplier(s) are expected to be pro-active and should not wait to be called. • The spring cleanup will consist of cleaning up debris such as sand, salt, grass, topsoil, etc. off of all asphalt roads, parking areas, and walkways. The equipment to be used shall limit dust to the atmosphere and shall be pre-wet if necessary. • Any damage to landscaping including grassed areas, flower beds, trees, shrubs, signs, curbing, speed bumps, etc., shall be the responsibility of the Supplier to either repair or replace immediately upon being advised by the Local Government.
