Extra Help. Where the Employer has called for extra Meat Department employees and an applicant to fill the job, who meets normal requirements for the job arrives on or before the time designated by the Employer, prepared to work and presentable for work, such applicant shall be given a full day's work or pay in lieu thereof. In case the Employer requests applicants from more than one source for the same job and applicants meet these requirements, all such applicants shall be given a full day's work or pay in lieu thereof.

Extra Help. Employees who work for a period of less than five months during a calendar year, less than 650 hours per calendar year intermittently, or in a temporary assignment up to a year in projects with an end in sight, during the absence of a regular employee or when employment is necessitated by work load peaks. This category is inclusive of student, casual, and seasonal employees. Extra Help employees are not in the bargaining unit and are not covered by this Agreement. Extra Help employees are covered by the County Extra Help Policy.

To provide mutual relief for these frustrations, the District may, as funds are available, employ and provide extra help employees for periods up to 60 cumulative working days in a fiscal year. Extra Help. The parties have agreed that the use of Extra Help positions and appointments is in the best interests of the employees and the Employer. Individuals hired on an Extra Help basis will receive wages as provided at 23.03 in this Agreement. Fringe benefits (pension, annuity, Health and Welfare) will be provided to the proper Union and/or Local Benefit fund on a monthly basis. Employees hired on an Extra Help basis will not accrue seniority nor will they be entitled to receive any of the following benefits referred to in Article 9: Vacation, Sick Leave, Paid Holidays (unless required to work), Administrative Closures (unless required to work), Other Leaves of Absence (Bereavement, Jury Duty, Military, etc.), Educational Benefit, Tax Deferred Compensation Plan, Retirement, Group Insurance, or Tuition Contribution Program. Employees hired on an Extra Help basis shall have Union dues remitted to their Local through payroll deduction and with proper authorization.
