Exfiltration. The sewer at the upstream side of the lower manhole and the upstream side of upper manhole in each section shall be closed with a watertight bulkhead and the sewer filled with water until the water elevation in the upstream manhole is not less than two feet (0.6 m) above the top of the sewer pipe or two feet (0.6 m) above ground water elevation in the trench, whichever is higher. The exfiltration will be determined by measuring the amount of water required to maintain the above stated water elevation for a period of one hour from the start of the test. The entire length of section to be tested shall be filled and maintained full of water for a period of approximately 24 hours prior to the start of the test.
