Excavating. Item 53 - Excavate for pull box or manhole. 4.87.1 Excavate: 4.87.1.1 The Contractor shall excavate in order to uncover a buried pull box or manhole, when so directed by NYCDOT. 4.87.1.2 The excavations shall completely expose the pull box or manhole. 4.87.1.3 The Contractor shall remove the pull box or manhole cover, thoroughly clean and remove all debris. The cover shall be securely fitted and all exposed joints shall be sealed with an approved non- hardening compound. 4.87.1.4 The excavation shall be backfilled and the surface area shall be restored to its original condition. 4.87.1.5 If a sidewalk or roadway box is covered by asphalt, concrete or dirt (to a level of 6") it shall be considered “buried” under these Items. 4.87.2 Payment under this item shall be on a unit price basis (per box or manhole).
