The EMPLOYMENT OF STRS RETIREES clause governs the hiring or continued employment of individuals who have retired under the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS). EMPLOYMENT OF STRS RETIREES. A. This Article governs the terms and conditions of employment of any superannuate or "other system retirant" (as those terms are statutorily defined for purposes of Section 3307.35 of the Ohio Revised Code) whom the Board may regularly employ in a position that falls within the description of the bargaining unit appearing in Article 1 of this Agreement. Except as otherwise specified below, any such employee will become a bargaining unit member upon employment and be subject to the provisions of this Agreement.
1. For initial placement purposes on the teachers' salary schedule, the employee will receive horizontal and vertical credit in accordance with the current contract language.
2. The employee will receive a one-year limited contract of employment (if employed after the start of the school year, such contract will be for the remainder of that school year). If subsequently reemployed, the employee will be awarded successive one-year limited contracts. In no event will the employee qualify for a continuing contract or a multi-year limited contract.
3. The sole requirement for effecting the nonrenewal of the employee's limited contract and severing the employment relationship upon expiration of the employee contract is receipt by the employee of written notice of nonrenewal on or before June 1 of the school year to which the contract applies. The procedures appearing in Section 3319.11 of the Ohio Revised Code, including the post-nonrenewal procedures appearing in Section 3319.11(G), shall not apply to any such contract nonrenewal.
4. Upon employment, the employee will be credited with zero (0) years of seniority and shall not thereafter accumulate seniority for any purpose under this Agreement.
5. The employee is not eligible to participate in any medical insurance fringe benefits offered under Article 29 of this Agreement unless the employee is precluded by STRS policy from participating in medical insurance benefits offered through STRS. The employee will be afforded liability insurance under Article 29, Section F of this Agreement. With respect to dental and life insurance fringe benefits under Article 29, the employee will receive full benefits as per contract.
6. The employee will in no event qualify for fee waivers under Article 26, retirant pay under Article 27 or any retirant incentive, or professional study/travel leave under Article 28, Section B, Paragraph 4 of this Agreement.

EMPLOYMENT OF STRS RETIREES. 19.01 This Article governs the terms and conditions of employment of any superannuate or “other system retirant” (as those terms are statutorily defined for purposes of Section 3307.35 of the Ohio Revised Code) whom the Board may regularly employ in a position that falls within the description of the bargaining unit appearing in Article I, Section 1.01 of this Agreement. Except as otherwise specified below, any such employee will become a bargaining unit member upon employment and be subject to the provisions of this Agreement.
EMPLOYMENT OF STRS RETIREES. A. This Article governs the terms and conditions of employment of any superannuate or "other system retiree" (as those terms are statutorily defined for purposes of Ohio Revised Code Section 3307.35) whom the Board may regularly employ in a position that falls within the description of the bargaining unit appearing in Article I, Section A of the Negotiated Agreement ("rehiree"). Except as otherwise specified below, any such employee will become a bargaining unit member upon employment and be subject to the provisions of the Negotiated Agreement. At no time shall more than twelve percent (12%) of employees in the bargaining unit be employed by the Board as rehirees.
1. Rehirees shall be placed at Level 1 of the appropriate training column of the salary schedule and shall remain at Level 1.
2. The employee will receive only a one-year limited contract of employment (if employed a after the start of the school year, such contract will be for the remainder of that school year). Each one-year contract for a rehiree shall automatically expire at the end of each school year, notwithstanding O.R.C. 3319.11
EMPLOYMENT OF STRS RETIREES. Ohio Law (R.C. 3307.35) allows the re-employment of retired employees. When these employees are rehired at Apollo, the following guidelines shall be used for internal or external candidates:
23.01 STRS retirees will be placed on the salary schedule at Steps 1 on the appropriate column. If re-employed, the retiree will have the opportunity to advance one Step per year up until Step 10, where they will be frozen at Step 10 after being reemployed nine (9) consecutive times. Any employee who is currently a retire/ rehire will be grandfathered.
23.02 STRS retirees employed after July 1, 2002 will be hired on one-year contracts only and will not gain seniority. The one-year contract automatically expires at the end of the school year without further action or notice from the Board.
23.03 STRS retirees are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance in accordance with STRS rules on insurance coverage. STRS retirees are eligible for payment in lieu of not taking health and dental insurance under the terms described in Article 17.02(B).
