Common use of Educational Sabbatical Leave Clause in Contracts

Educational Sabbatical Leave. Teachers who have been employed for seven (7) years may be granted an educational sabbatical leave for one (1) year. During said sabbatical leave, the teacher shall be considered to be in the employ of the BOARD and shall be paid the difference between his/her salary and the hiring of a teacher to replace him/her. 1. A teacher, upon return from a sabbatical leave, shall be restored to a position for which the teacher is certified and qualified and shall advance on the salary schedule as he/she would have been had he/she taught in the District during such period. 2. A teacher taking a sabbatical leave shall agree to remain in the employ of the school District for a period of two (2) school years commencing with the return year. Should a teacher desire not to continue with the District after a sabbatical, he/she may do so by returning the salary differential he/she was paid during his/her leave. The salary differential must be paid back previous to the beginning of the new school year.
