Distributed Approaches Sample Clauses

Distributed Approaches. The distributed management approaches introduce the concept of a management hierarchy, in a way similar to that found in human organizations. With these approaches, the Central Manager (NMS) delegates part of the management load among Agent Managers, each responsible for a part of the network. The Agent Managers typically do not exchange information between themselves, but rather with the Central Manager, this single entity having sole responsibility for the coordination of the whole network management. This distributed model is mostly used by the OSI-SM (OSI System Management) that uses CMIP (Common Management Information Service) as the management protocol. This model is the basis of the TMN (Telecommunication Management Network), a telecommunication management framework, defined by the ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union) in ITU-T M.30000 recommendation series. Being defined by the ITU means that most of the traditional (incumbent) telecommunication operators are using and have adopted it. More recently, even system providers that have been born on the Internet market are now introducing management solutions that use this concept (e.g. for the management of Wi-Fi hotspots). One agent manager may control several agents, whether they are located at several different items of equipment, or they are more or less independent pieces located on a single unit of equipment.
