Description of the Water Treatment System. The Middlesex Water Company is an investor-owned water utility that provides water service to retail customers primarily in eastern Middlesex County. Water services are now furnished to approximately 58,000 retail customers located in an area of approximately 55 square miles of New Jersey in Woodbridge Township, the Boroughs of Metuchen and Carteret, portions of Edison Township and the Borough of South Plainfield and the City of South Amboy in Middlesex County, and a portion of the Township of Xxxxx in Union County. The Middlesex Water Company obtains water from both surface and groundwater sources; however, the principal source of supply is the Delaware and Raritan Canal, owned by the State of New Jersey and operated as a water resource by the New Jersey Water Supply Authority.
