The Control Area Notification clause establishes the requirement for one party to inform the other about changes or events related to a designated control area, such as a geographic region or operational zone. In practice, this clause may require prompt notification if there are modifications to the boundaries, operational status, or regulatory conditions affecting the control area. Its core function is to ensure that all relevant parties remain informed about significant developments, thereby supporting effective coordination and minimizing misunderstandings or operational disruptions.
Control Area Notification. At least three months before Initial Synchronization Date, Interconnection Customer shall notify Distribution Provider in writing of the Control Area in which the Generating Facility will be located. If Interconnection Customer elects to locate the Generating Facility in a Control Area other than the Control Area in which the Generating Facility is physically located, and if permitted to do so by the relevant transmission tariffs, all necessary arrangements, including but not limited to those set forth in Article 7 and Article 8 of this GIA, and remote Control Area generator interchange agreements, if applicable, and the appropriate measures under such agreements, shall be executed and implemented prior to the placement of the Generating Facility in the other Control Area.

Control Area Notification of the IA requires the Interconnection Customer to notify the Transmission Provider in writing of the Control Area in which the Generation Facility will be located. Interconnection Customer hereby informs Transmission Owner and Transmission Provider that the Generating Facility will be located within Sunflower Control Area. Infrastructure security of Transmission System equipment and operations and control hardware and software is essential to ensure day-to-day Transmission System reliability and operational security. FERC will expect all Transmission Providers, market participants, and Interconnection Customers interconnected to the Transmission System to comply with the recommendations offered by the President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board and, eventually, best practice recommendations from the electric reliability authority. All public utilities will be expected to meet basic standards for system infrastructure and operational security, including physical, operational, and cyber-security practices.
