Compressed Work Schedules a. The Parties agree that compressed work schedules (CWSs) will be used service wide according to the following guidelines and approved schedules, for the purpose of improved productivity and greater service to the public, according to 5 U.S.C. 6120-6133.

Compressed Work Schedules. A. A compressed work schedule is defined as an eighty (80) hour basic work requirement in a pay period which is scheduled for less than ten (10) workdays. The following are examples of widely recognized (a.k.a. traditional) compressed work schedules:

To be established, employees request, and supervisors must preapprove, fixed arrival and departure times and a fixed non-workday. Fixed arrival and departure times must be the same for each workday.

Compressed Work Schedules. A. Subject to applicable statutes and supervisory approval, employees may elect to work under “5/4-9” or “4/10” models of CWS. Under the 4/10 program, eligible employees are scheduled to work for ten (10) hours per day for four (4) days each week, with one (1) day off every week. The EMPLOYER may, for business reasons, exclude certain positions from participating in the 4/10 program.

Compressed Work Schedules. 22.5 Compressed work schedules are defined as the following schedules:  4/10: For those employees assigned a four (4) day workweek, the workday shall normally consist of four (4) consecutive days of ten (10) hours.  9/80: For those employees assigned a 9/80 work schedule, a schedule shall consist of nine hour shifts on four consecutive days during each calendar week plus an additional eight hour shift every other week. In calendar weeks in which the employee works the eight hour shift, the eight hour shift shall be worked on (1) the day following the fourth consecutive nine hour workday or (2) on the day prior to the four consecutive nine hour workdays. The President shall designate that the workweek period begins at the midpoint of the bi- weekly eight hour day so that the first four hours of the eight hour shift shall fall within one workweek, and the last four hours of the eight hour shift shall fall within the next workweek. Accordingly, each workweek shall consist of forty hours. An employee shall not be entitled to overtime pay unless the employee works in excess of the foregoing schedule. The two possible schedules are: Schedule A - Employee works a 9/80 schedule which consists of working nine hour shifts each Monday through Thursday. Employee works every other Friday for 8 hours. Schedule B – Employee works a 9/80 schedule which consists of working nine hour shifts Tuesday through Friday. Employee works every other Monday for 8 hours. The two schedule options would be the following: Schedule A Sun Mon Tues Wed Thurs Fri Sat Week 1 9 hrs 9 hrs 9 hrs 9 hrs 4 hrs Week 2 4 hrs 9 hrs 9 hrs 9 hrs 9 hrs Schedule B Sun Mon Tues Wed Thurs Fri Sat Week 1 9 hrs 9 hrs 9 hrs 9 hrs 4 hrs Week 2 4 hrs 9 hrs 9 hrs 9 hrs 9 hrs An employee’s manager may approve change requests to the alternate schedule after input from appropriate departments (e.g., Human Resources) on related impacts of the proposed change (e.g., timing, pay) have been reviewed and coordinated as appropriate. All schedule changes must be approved in advance.

Compressed Work Schedules. The District and unit member may mutually agree to a compressed work schedule, in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) or Education Code 88040, to establish either an: - ­ 4/10 (four-­day, ten-­hour per day workweek) - ­ 9/80 (eight nine-­hour days and one eight-­hour day over a two week period) All compressed schedules must be requested on the Alternative Workweek Schedule Change Form (Appendix H) and submitted to the Vice President, Human Resources for compliance. Time off must be reported in hourly increments (i.e., 9/80 must report 9 hours for full day off work). If a holiday falls on a day for which the unit member is not scheduled to work as a result of the compressed schedule, the District shall provide a substitute holiday for such unit member, within the same pay period, or provide compensation in the amount to which the unit member would have been entitled had the holiday fallen within the unit member’s normal work schedule. If the unit member is on a compressed schedule, the number of hours scheduled to work per day equals the number of hours granted for the holiday.
