Common use of Certification Eligibility Clause in Contracts

Certification Eligibility. a. Members previously certified or who have completed departmental training and testing shall be grandfathered. b. All members must complete departmental training and testing as approved by the Fire Chief. The Fire Chief shall establish a career progression pathway for all Members. Formal acting academies for Engineer, Lieutenant, and Battalion Chief shall be available to those qualified members at a minimum of every two years. c. Firefighters assigned to act in the capacity of Engineer must have completed two years of service to the Department. d. Firefighters assigned to act in the capacity of Lieutenant must have completed four years of service to the Department. e. Engineers assigned to act in the capacity of Lieutenant must have completed four years of service to the Department. f. Lieutenants assigned to act in the capacity of Battalion Chief must have completed eight years of service to the Department. g. Any Member may choose to remove themselves from the acting pool, said Member shall not receive any corresponding acting pay referenced in Section 21. If the Member chooses to reinstate their name into the acting pool, their qualifications and eligibility will be subject to review and approval of their departmental training and testing as approved by the Fire Chief. The frequency and circumstances surrounding the Member’s choice to remove or reinstate themselves may be considered by the Fire Chief when reviewing and approving the Member’s reinstatement.
