Common use of Breaks and Meals Clause in Contracts

Breaks and Meals. Break time shall consist of one (1) fifteen (15) minute paid rest period for every four (4) hours worked. Breaks shall occur approximately midway through the four (4) hour time period. Meal time shall consist of one (1) thirty (30) minute unpaid meal period for every eight (8) hours worked. If an employee works back-to-back shifts of at least eight (8) hours each, the meal time during the second shift shall be paid. An employee shall not leave work before the end of a shift in lieu of taking break or meal periods, unless otherwise mutually agreed by the Employer and the employee.
