As regulators continue to address the threats of emerging contaminants such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), not only are wastewater and water treatment facilities likely to see new permit requirements, but also sources, such as landfills, will be subject to strengthening regulations. Evaluating and planning to implement alternative biosolids management solutions, especially those which reduce dependency on landfill disposal, should be prioritized by OWRA stakeholders.
