Apprentice Pay Rates. Apprentice pay rates apply to employees who are subject to a written apprenticeship agreement. They are prorated to the licensed journeyperson rates, as follows: Start: 55% After 2000 hours* 65% After 4000 hours 75% After 6000 hours 85% * includes hours worked, paid, on-site and in class. Any superior provision conferred via legislation shall prevail. Further provisions regarding apprentices are outlined in a Letter of Agreement between the parties appended to and part of this Collective Agreement.

Apprentice Pay Rates. An apprentice means a person who is covered by an apprentice agreement with the Phoenix Painters and Decorators Apprentice Program and registered with the State Registration Agency. An apprentice shall perform any work assigned as outlined in Article V of this agreement under the supervision of a journeyman taper. If for any reason the apprenticeship agreement is cancelled by the Apprenticeship Program, the apprentice must be immediately reclassified as a pre-apprentice, new journeyman, or journeyman in accordance with the current wage rate for these classifications.

An apprentice who is aged 21 at the start of, or attains age 21 during, their apprenticeship will be paid 100% ET1.1 or until the stage rate is higher, then the apprentice is paid at the higher rate e.g. stage 4 apprentice pay rate is higher than ET1.1. When the Company recruits an internal employee to an apprenticeship they remain on their base pay rate until they complete their apprenticeship and are either offered a trade position or until the stage rate is higher than their permanent base rate.

To ensure each apprentice makes timely progress through his apprenticeship, apprentices must maintain active status with the Ontario College of Trades or its successor body, and participate in all processes of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development required for the issuance and processing of an Offer of Classroom Training. Apprentices must enroll, or make all reasonable efforts to enroll, in each school term, by the following times: Basic - prior to completion of 3600 hrs. Intermediate - prior to completion of 7200 hrs. Advanced – prior to completion of 9000 hrs. The Employer will cooperate with the apprentice and the Ministry regarding the apprentice’s attendance at trade school, and will assign the apprentice to a journeyperson wherever and whenever possible to learn the trade.
